“Priceless,” the lead single from Shimmer’s upcoming full length debut album Inner Me, opens with Shimmer’s pristinevoice sharing those difficult feelings artists struggling with their sense of self can all relate to: “Has this mask hidden beauty that makes me/Colored glass in a frame that’s not meant to be/Shattered pieces on the floor/Have the scenes ended in insecurity…” Then the chorus offers the push and pull of hearing words of encouragement that are then stripped away: “You always made me feel so beautiful/Then you tear it out like a centerfold.” Until finally, she asserts, with boldness and determination “I am priceless/Can’t you see this?”
Review Fix: How was 2020 for you musically?
Shimmer Johnson: Musically due to the Covid-19 lock downs I had a lot of time to finish my album “Inner Me” and perfect it to be exactly what I wanted it to be. We managed to find some amazing new sounds and orchestration for songs like “Candle” and “Rise”. I wrote a total of about 30 songs in 2020, including my singles Sweet Lies and Love is Possible. I released the two new singles end of 2020 and beginning of 2021.
Review Fix: What have you learned?
Johnson: During 2020 while I was writing; I also learned to promote my music on social media. I started my @shimmerjohnson account on TIKTOK and managed to get 48K followers during 2020. I also learned how to use Twitter and Instagram and I am still building followers there. 2020 for me was preparing me for 2021 and the release of my hit album “Inner Me”.

The new single from Shimmer Johnson, entitled “Priceless” is a track from her upcoming album, Inner Me. Inner Me is scheduled for a February release, and if “Priceless” is an indication of what we can expect, then expectations are high. Clocking in at just under 5 minutes, “Priceless” is a haunting, driving narrative on the dissolution of a relationship and a decree of self worth. You could almost liken it to an adult contemporary version of Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable.” Shimmer makes it clear by the end of the song, that she will not be undervalued and is indeed “Priceless.”
Shimmer Johnson’s profile is impressive and well documented. She’s worked with some of the top songwriters in the music business. Her song, “Thunder” was used in 5 separate episodes of MTV’s, Sweet 16. Her accolades are enough to make any aspiring songwriters, envious, yet she continues to push herself to produce the best material she is capable of. You could say, Johnson shows a propensity for dramatics on “Priceless”, but there is also a slightly cold deliberation, underneath

Canadian Born, and Missouri raised, Shimmer Johnson, has dropped her new single, “Priceless.” Shimmer has developed a solid reputation over the years, by working with a slew of major names in the Music industry. Her songs have been featured on MTV and SNL, the former on multiple occasions. “Priceless” is a beautiful, yet haunting ballad, that nearly reaches epic status. It’s a lengthy piece, that sees Shimmer reach an emotional crescendo, by the conclusion.

Shimmer Johnson would probably fall into the adult contemporary or adult alternative genre. She seems more than capable of writing a powerful pop song, though. Her history with some of the Songwriters she has worked with, combined with her own natural talent, lends a craftsmanship that sets her apart. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s easy for her, as that is not pragmatic but it is most certainly, natural. She establishes a visual and emotional palette, that give her songs a density and in the case of “Priceless;” resolution

For fans of Singer/Songwriter types such as Amy Lee Or Tori Amos, Shimmer Johnson should be a welcome add to your playlist. She has a moonlight ambience to her work, rich with emotion and proficient in structure. Her new single “Priceless” is an ode to someone who once made her feel her best, but came to take her for granted. It’s a stark, cool piece that unfolds, diligently. It’s instantly obvious, that Johnson is a well tenured artist, that has combined experience with natural talent to much success.
Shimmer has worked with top songwriters, who have been key contributors for other major names. She collaborated on a song that was once featured on SNL. Her songs have ranked on Commercial Music Charts, and she has and continues to tour, extensively. Her new album, Inner Me, drops on Feb 9th, and will feature “Priceless.” This song serves it purpose in building anticipation for Inner Me, and will likely be something of an anchor track

It’s rare that a song can emotionally resonate with you, from literally the opening chords. That is precisely the case, with Shimmer Johnson’s new single, “Priceless,” though. She’s the kind of Songwriter that understands how to communicate her sentiments on a deeper level, which is likely due to her latent and undeniable passion. “Priceless” establishes its atmosphere, almost immediately. The production on the track isolates Shimmer’s vocals, presciently, which in turn places the focus, precisely where it belongs.

It might be a bit of an oversimplification to call Shimmer Johnson’s new single, “Priceless” a breakup song. The dynamics of the relationship in focus, seem to transcend shared intimacy, but there is little question that the subject is a former lover. What could be a run of the mill piece about heartbreak and the self-reflective aftermath, is strengthened by Johnson’s performance and songwriting. From the opening strings, she establishes herself as a veteran in her prime, with her self-assured delivery and steady hand. She sounds like a seasoned pro, because she is exactly that.

Shimmer Johnson is a highly decorated artist. With songs that have been included on major television networks, and a veritable presence in the industry, her reputation precedes her. She is dropping an album on Feb 9th, which of course will include “Priceless.” It is not your typical single, at nearly 5 minutes long, but because of how well written and lush its production is, that may have no pertinence. It’s a bit of a mood piece that has an almost sobering effect.
There is something of a brisk and icy feel to “Priceless.” It could be to reflect the emotional state of Johnson’s character, in the song. It could be reflective of how she has lost any and all warmth she once regarded this person with, because she realizes just how toxic they were. Upon multiple listens, “Priceless” will truly begin to strike a chord with you, no pun intended. You will likely visualize one of your own relationships, when it was in a state of finality, but instead of melancholy, you will feel dignified, as Johnson seems to be

It's a poignant track about love and loss, Canadian born Shimmer lost her mother Deborah Rose several years ago and says: "Things haven't been the same ever since she left us all. Anyone who has experienced loss will hopefully be able to experience the song and connect to it in their own way to their own life & loss? I wrote it that way specifically so that everybody could get the same type of feeling from it. When I'm upset I don't like people hugging me or fussing and asking if i'm okay, Obviously i'm not okay or fine, so I wrote a song based on that ". It's certainly a beautiful track and not only does she write in multi-genres she also has a vocal that smacks of quality recording artist, it's a tone that's at home with intimate tracks such as her forthcoming single but would sit just as comfortably with a heavier Evanescence kickass sound
